# Broadcast FAQs

> Discover answers to some of our most frequently asked questions about Broadcast messages.

Below are some of our most frequently asked questions about creating and sending Broadcast messages.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="What is a link tracker?" icon="circle-question">
    The purpose of the link tracker is to collect attributes & clicks from customers interacting with the link so that you understand how your texts are performing. The link will redirect customers to the designated website while providing a cleaner, simplified look.

    Link tracking is an active feature for all our brands.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I use my own custom domain for link tracking?" icon="circle-question">
    You are not able to use your own custom domain for link tracking, as it may cause issues.

    You do have the option to use a custom link, but it is not mandatory. If you would like to use a custom link, please reach out to your CSM to discuss how to go about purchasing one for your brand.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I sent myself a test Broadcast, but didn't receive it. Why?" icon="circle-question">
    There could be a number of reasons why you didn't receive a test broadcast; it is likely due to the carrier noticing unusual activity between your device and our messages.

    If you did not receive your Broadcast test, wait a few minutes and then check your phone's spam folder. If you still do not see your test message, please reach out to [support@emotive.io](mailto:support@emotive.io) and include your Brand Name and your phone number in your request.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I sent myself a test Broadcast and it said <name>. Is everyone going to see that?" icon="circle-question">
    When sending a Broadcast we will always replace the \<name> variable with the name associated with each contact. If we don’t have a name for them, a blank space will appear (unless you've set up a default name to fall back on). **We will never display the \<name> variable in a live text.**

    When sending a *test* Broadcast, however, we will leave the \<name> as is, so you can easily see how it would fit into the broadcast. This only occurs in test Broadcasts.

    <Warning>
      Please make sure that you leave the variable as is (all lowercase: \<name>).

      If you change the variable to \<Name> or \<NAME>, this will break the variable and it will display as \<Name> or \<NAME> instead of the contact's actual name.
    </Warning>
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I sent myself a test Broadcast, but the link I sent didn't get changed to a link tracker. Why?" icon="circle-question">
    We do not change links to link trackers in test Broadcasts. We only apply link tracking in live texts. This allows you to ensure the link itself is good. Whenever updating the link, you should send yourself a test broadcast to make sure the link in the Broadcast is the correct one.

    <Warning>
      Please note that only the **first** link of each broadcast will be changed to a link tracker.
