# Build a Smile.io Segment

> Use your Smile.io properties to create a subset of customers to send personalized campaigns to.

## Smile.io Segment Properties

Below are the [Smile.io](http://Smile.io) properties that Emotive can support when building a segment:

* Points Balance (data type: number)
* Date of Birth (data type: datetime)

## Example Segments

There are a number of possibilities for [Smile.io](http://Smile.io) segments based on the structure of your loyalty program. Here are some popular use cases we see used at Emotive:

### Birthday (by month)

Create different segments based on the birthday month of your subscribers and send them a birthday offer on the first of the month.

To build this:

* Use the **smile:date\_of\_birth** property.
* Select **In the Month of** as your operator.
* Choose the month as your property.

Make sure to name your segment according to the month. See the below example.

### Point Balances

Create segments that are aligned with your loyalty program tiers and/or rewards structure. For example, if customers with 1,000+ Smile Points can redeem a \$10 off coupon, create a segment of contacts with qualifying points balances to notify them and drive the sale.

To build this:

* Use the **smile:points\_balance** property.
* Use the **Greater Than or Equals** operator.
* Enter the desired quantity value.

Make sure to name your segment according to the point value. See the below example.
