Text messages are inherently more personal than email. Here are a few tips on how to message your customers over SMS:
1. Keep it short and sweet:
No one is going to read an essay over text message, so make sure to keep your body under 200 characters (not including your link).
2. Have a great call-to-action:
If you want to get people to engage, make your call to action very clear. For example, ‘Click the link to shop now’ or ‘Click the link to see why’. Or, if you want to elicit more responses, try “Is there anything I can help you with?”
3. Always say who you are
Do not forget to say “Hey! It’s X brand” or “Hi John, it’s Zach from Emotive!” Engagement is higher when you remind them who you are.
4. Don’t spam!
SMS is very personal to your customers, it is where they talk to their family and best friends, so keep the number of texts down to 1 per week.
5. Immediate response isn’t too necessary:
Unlike on-site chat, text message followers your customers or potential customers even after they leave your website. So do not feel pressured to respond within 10 minutes. Anything within the response time of a couple hours is not too bad for this channel.
