One way to improve your SMS results is to personalize your messages. We’ve found that personalized Broadcasts perform up to 20% better. Follow this guide to learn how to easily personalize your messages.

Add a variable

While typing out your Broadcast:
  • Click the variables icon in the bottom right corner.
  • Select your variable (i.e., First Name).
Your variable will auto-fill with the data associated with each contact.

Default values

In the example of using the First Name variable, there may be instances where a contact does not have a first name tied to its profile. In this case, you can add a “default name”, or fallback value, just in case. After adding your First Name variable:
  • Enter the default word you’d like to use in the event that the contact has no name.
  • Hit Enter to save your change.
Your default value will be applied to the specific Broadcast you are creating. It does not apply across all messages in your account, so you’ll need to add this each time you add the variable in a message.
Without entering a default value, a blank space will appear where the name should be (for contacts with no name).
