Turn on SMS Consent Collection in Shopify
- Log into Shopify admin.
- Head to your Checkout settings.
- Scroll down to Marketing consent, and check the box under SMS marketing.
Add phone number as required
While still in Checkout settings on Shopify:- Scroll up to Form options.
- Set Shipping address phone number as Required.
- Save your changes.
Customize your opt-in language
This is where you can offer a discount to new subscribers. While you’re still in your Settings:- Scroll down to the bottom and select Manage checkout language.
- In the box next to Filter, type in “SMS”.
- Under Accept sms checkbox label, enter your discount copy. We recommend something like: Get 10% off your next order when you sign up for texts (1 time only). Get cart reminders + more!
- Save your changes.
If you have an Abandoned Checkout Experience, Shopify indicates that you should clearly mention cart reminders in the label.
Test your checkout experience
Head over to your live site and review your checkout page. You should see phone number as a required field and a checkbox for SMS right at the bottom. The checkbox will not be pre-selected to remain TCPA compliant.Note: When a customer opts in at checkout, we’ll automatically send a legally compliant opt-in confirmation SMS. You can view and update the message here.
Create a new Flow in Emotive
- Log into Emotive and navigate to Flows.
- Click on the New Flow button, then choose the Discount on Next Order template.
- Add or create a new discount code in settings. This should be the discount amount you offered at checkout.
Note: Make sure to keep the default setting of “Once” so each subscriber from checkout only receives the offer once.
- Click Next, and then you can review the Experience and customize your copy.
- Publish your new Flow.
