Static Codes vs. Dynamic Codes

When using discount codes in Flows, you have two options: a static code or a dynamic code. Before we walk through instructions on how to add them to your Flows, let’s explore the key differences between the two. A static discount code is a single phrase or alphanumeric string that gives a user a specific discount (i.e., WELCOME20). Each subscriber receives the same code to use on your site. A dynamic discount code is a random series of numbers or letters that a recipient can use one time. A unique discount code is generated for each recipient, so no two recipients will have the same code.
You must be a Shopify business in order to use Dynamic Codes at Emotive.

Use a Static Code

If your brand is not on Shopify, or you prefer to use a static code, follow these instructions:
  • Navigate to your Flows page.
  • Build a new Flow, or select an existing one.
  • In your Flow’s settings, scroll down to Discount code and enter your static code (i.e., WELCOME20).
  • Click Next to continue building your flow, or Publish your changes.
Make sure that you’ve also activated the same static code in your ecommerce store before publishing your Flow. Otherwise, your store will not recognize your code as valid.

Use a Dynamic Code

If your brand is on Shopify and you’d like to use dynamic codes in your Flows, follow these instructions:
  • Navigate to your Flows page.
  • Build a new Flow, or select an existing one.
  • Select + New Discount Code.
  • Select Dynamic code.
  • Configure your discount’s settings and click Save.
Your dynamic code will start with “EMTV.” This is not what the end user will see, this is just your master parent code.  This will look like the image below:
Do not copy and paste this code to use for any other Flows. You will need to create a new dynamic discount code for each Flow.
When the dynamic code is generated at random for your recipient, it will be a random sequence of letters and numbers as shown below:
